Water kefir is a lightly fermented, fizzy drink full of gut-friendly bacteria. It’s made by fermenting water, organic sugar and kefir grains — which are clusters of bacteria and yeasts that feed on the sugar and multiply. As they ferment, the sugar is mostly eaten up, leaving a naturally low-sugar drink packed with beneficial microbes.
The result? A refreshing drink that’s:
naturally low in sugar
full of probiotics
gently fizzy
often flavoured with fruit, herbs or spices
suitable for kids and adults
It’s not like kombucha, which uses tea and has a sharper taste. Water kefir is milder, easier to drink daily, and caffeine-free.
We brew our water kefir in small batches using only natural, organic ingredients. No preservatives. No pasteurisation. Just the good stuff your gut needs. We flavour with real ingredients, think fresh ginger, lime, white grape, elderflower, pineapple and mint, never extracts or natural flavourings.

Why drink it?
Research suggests that water kefir may:
support a more diverse gut microbiome
reduce inflammation in the gut
act as a natural antioxidant
help crowd out harmful bacteria
🔍 What the research says:
Water kefir may help support gut microbiome balance
Water kefir contains a mix of live bacteria and yeasts, which in lab models have been shown to increase levels of beneficial gut bacteria like Bifidobacteria.
It has shown anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity in lab studies
Kefir drinks like water kefir may help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation by producing bioactive compounds such as organic acids and polyphenols.
It may help protect the gut barrier
Research using cell models and animals shows water kefir may help maintain the gut lining and reduce inflammation linked to “leaky gut”.
It may offer benefits for metabolism, liver health and weight balance
Preliminary studies (mostly in animals) suggest it may help regulate blood sugar, reduce fat build-up in the liver, and support healthy weight.
Water kefir is not officially classed as a probiotic
This is because specific strains and their effects haven’t yet been studied in large human trials. Still, researchers describe water kefir as a “potential functional food” with positive effects on gut health.
Daily fermented foods can increase gut microbiome diversity and reduce inflammation
A Stanford study found that eating fermented foods regularly — including fermented drinks — increased microbiome diversity and reduced inflammatory markers in just 10 weeks.
It’s a great option for people looking to swap sugary drinks for something that still feels like a treat but works with your body, not against it.
Why we chose water kefir
We tried everything — dairy kefir, kombucha, kimchi — but water kefir felt like the easiest way to build a daily habit. It tastes good. It’s gentle on the stomach. It works for people who are dairy-free or caffeine-sensitive. We drink it daily. That’s why we make it.
